Final Speech Page
MY BEST ADVICE– “I loved your story and how 2 important things in your life have connected through a dog toy! I like how it kept me interested from when you started talking about tigger, then your dog and then how they connect at the end. I also like how you told the story from beginning to end and didn’t jump around. Something I think could use improvement is having less filler words or breaks, which is hard because it is something that comes natural to everyone when we talk.”
WHY IT’S MY BEST ADVICE– I think this was my best advice because I came up with 1 thing they could improve on while relating it to something everyone struggles with. My feedback was they did a good job of showing how their object connected to something else important in their life and they didn’t jump around and repeat parts of the story. I then said they could improve on using less filler words which is something everyone struggles with when they are naturally talking, but in a speech you try to limit it since it is more rehearsed. This makes the feedback less harsh by saying others struggle with it too.
Best advice from my peers- “I completely agree with you that some of these coffee places are so expensive for a cup of coffee. You had a very clear voice and you spoke loud which made it very easy to understand and hear what you were saying. You showed a lot of confidence when you spoke too which is what a lot of great videos need! For you to be able to hit the 3 minute mark I would say that you could slow down the pace in which you are talking a little bit and I don’t know how long it takes to make the espresso or if you make it or buy it, but you could show how its made or just explain what you have on the table prior to starting the process of making it, so you can just explain the steps you are going through as you make it.”
WHY IT’S THEIR BEST ADVICE- I thought this advice was really helpful because I used their idea of explaining the ingredients I had on my table before starting. This helped me lengthen my video! The first time I made my coffee while I was talking about the ingredients and didn’t hit the 3 min mark. I also like this advice because they said I spoke loudly and with confidence which is something I struggle with so that made my day when I read that!
MY BIGGEST STRIDES– The speech where I saw the most growth between my dry-run draft and final is speech 3. For this speech, it had to be between 3-5 mins where the first 2 we did only had to be a minute. I think this may have tripped me up since it had to be a minute or 2 longer than I was used to. For my first draft, it was 1:47 and I knew that was going to be something my peers critiqued so when I posted my link I asked for ideas on how I could lengthen my speech. They gave me great feedback and I used Nick’s idea of explaining the ingredients on the table first and then making my drink. I also added in another ingredient of cold foam to lengthen my speech even more. I got my speech to 3:01 which hit the 3 min mark. A specific good moment I can see in my video, that you commented on as well, is at 2:50 when I was pouring the cold foam into my coffee. Not only was I smiling because my cold foam came out good and I was happy to drink my coffee, but also because I made it to the end of the video with everything running smoothly for the most part, so it was also a smile of relief. Although this was not my best work of the semester, it is where I saw the most growth from my dry-run draft and to my final video.
